Kind of funny 4.01 bug #332

Oct. 25th, 2010 | 08:08 am

Not sure if anyone else has had this happen, but it made me smile when it happened so I thought I'd make a quick post. Since I've gone back to playing my huntress I need all the welfare frost gear you can get with straight heroics now, so I've been farming those as much as I can stand. I got an AN pop at one point, and it was going pretty normally until we got to Hadronox. We cleared up the beetles and she made her way upstairs, we all got ready to wait the 20 seconds necessary for her to kill off the little spiders, then: she flopped over on her back, dead, and all the little spiders disappeared and it said we were saved to the instance.

The little guys had won the fight! Payback for god knows how many times losing, I guess?

Unrelated: I finished farming honor for my welfare 264 bow last, thank god. Hunter pvp is not my favorite anyway, and being alliance in my BG is just the worst. Gchat for the entire weekend was just a long scroll of me QQing.

And now... the rest of the story.

Dec. 26th, 2009 | 04:27 am

Due to a new job, I recently had to step down from raiding with my hunter. The only upgrades left for her, really, are in ICC, so there's not a whole lot of point in playing her. The new LFG tool has been a godsend for my disc priest, though. He was wearing a patchwork of Naxx stuff, BoEs, and blues from heroics, so suddenly having access to t9 is fantastic, not to mention the actual items that drop in the new instances.

Anyway, I know there's been a lot of grr over the whole gearscore thing, so I thought I'd mention the only time I've actually run into it in-game. This was a couple days ago, and the random tossed us into H-HoR. This is really the only heroic that makes me half-cringe, as the Marwyn trash waves can get pretty awful if the tank doesn't pick up everything instantly and securely. Even if they do, it can be pretty rough. But I'm willing to try any instance with any group, and H-HoR usually doesn't get instaquits, since everyone wants the gear (including me!).

It wasn't the easiest clear of that instance I've ever done, but we did clear it. After all the crystals/loot had been distributed from the last chest (I think that was when I got the belt I'm wearing), the tank who had previously been entirely silent says: "OK GUYS WHAT'S EVERYONE'S GS!????" then drops group.

I thought that was pretty awesome.

I will have to admit I did ditch a group earlier, though. The tank was doing something wrong - I have no idea what - but he was taking unhealable levels of damage from old kingdom trash. I remarked on the insane damage he was taking one or two trash pulls in, and when we wiped after another couple pulls because I simply couldn't heal through the damage, I was like "well, good luck with that" and ditched. He accused me of being a "gear elitist" because I said he wasn't ready to tank the instance, but like, I hadn't even inspected him and honestly wouldn't know what to look for if I had. All I know is that if you've got weakened soul on you, renew ticking, penance and PoM on CD, and you die while flash heal is casting on old kingdom trash, you're not ready to tank it. You're just not.

Indoctrination

Oct. 16th, 2009 | 08:48 pm

My six year old nephew has seen me doing a few dailies and a couple raids now, and he was talking about it with my boyfriend. He apparently said "I hope there's a book about the game so I can learn how to play it when I'm older." Which is pretty cute on its own, but he also said "and I was wondering if maybe there was a way I could make a man?"

So of course we sat him down in front of the character creation screen. His dad was there and thought he should make a male dwarf warrior, but he was pretty adamant about having a female Blood Elf mage. Like, when we asked him whether he wanted to use a sword or magic, the answer "magic!" was instant. And then, while I dithered about how to explain the differences between the various magic-using classes, he pointed at the mage icon and went "the red one is the magic one!" So that's what we went with.

The name stymied us for a bit, because he's, you know, six and staring at a keyboard full of letters is a little intimidating. We ended up using the random name feature and that he was fine. He chose the super-huge bouffant with the hairband but was indifferent to all the other customization options.

Explaining quests was kind of slow. He reads at a second to third grade level, but that's still well below WoW quest text, you know? So we sort of explained what the quests wanted, but also encouraged him to run around, explore, and shoot fireballs at stuff. He was really, really cute. Like, fireball on a new mage is bound to 2, so he'd laboriously navigate within range of a wyrm and then whisper "two!" really intensely as he dramatically pressed the button with his right index finger, followed by "yesss!" when the mana wyrm/lynx died. The best was when he pulled a two-lynx pair, killed them both, and then threw both hands in the air and yelled "go fireball, whoooo!"

Anyway it was pretty cute so I wanted to share.

So I dunno if it's ok to post this or anything since it's pretty pointless, but hopefully some people will laugh? Um. Click here.

That is all.

3.1 Survival Hunter Raiding Primer

Apr. 27th, 2009 | 06:14 pm

My load at work was fairly light (and also stupefyingly boring) today, so over the course of the day I tip-tapped out this little text file that's pretty much my understanding of How to Raid as a Survival Hunter. And since "how does X class/spec work?" is a pretty regularly asked question here, I thought maybe I'd post it. Keep in mind that I'm just another player, my guild has only killed the first 7 bosses in heroic Ulduar, etc. That said, I also feel pretty confident in my understanding of the class and spec. This is incredibly long, so you'll have to look behind the cut if you're interested.Collapse )

The eternal battle! RL vs. WoW

Mar. 25th, 2009 | 09:43 am

I've recently (like, less than a week ago) come back to playing WoW after a break of several months. A long night of wipes on Illidan a couple weeks before the pre-Wrath patch hit was sort of the last ember of burn-out, so I had to take a break (of course the guild swapped one of the flame tanks and killed him the next week, but enh! I'm happy with my BC raiding experience). Cut to preserve friends pages.Collapse )

Mounts!

Sep. 27th, 2008 | 10:12 pm

I've had a couple hot rolls in the past couple days, and I wanted to post a couple screens. Feel free to skip the cut if you're indifferent! :D Mounts!Collapse )

Rogues: Comedy relief for raids

Sep. 13th, 2008 | 12:58 pm

We dropped Mother Shahraz for the first time last week, and since we had some time left over, we started making our way to Council. On the way, there are a few packs of blood elves fairly close together, and since sap had worked out for us on the first pack, we decided to try to use it on the second pack. Let me see if I can describe the scene in a way that makes sense.

Standing way back from the mobs is the raid. In front of us is the little circular pack, and behind and to the left of that pack is another circular pack. We've marked one sap target on the side of the circle closer to the raid, and another on the far side. So our two intrepid rogues start creeping out there, and as they get closer, the nearer rogue uses a distract -- you know, so all the mobs are looking the other way, so he can sap them? The other way being exactly where our other rogue is stealthing by? Watching five or six 10-foot-tall blood elves get the little "!!!" over their heads, turn to look where they heard a pebble fall, and actually find a rogue there was just... so, so perfect. And of course since she was directly between two packs of mobs, as soon as her stealth was broken they both aggroed.

Oh, and if you're wondering, of course vanish was resisted. Vanish, like feign, is an imaginary ability and doesn't actually do anything.

I have no idea if I'm getting across just how funny this was, but (combined with several failed sap attempts immediately afterwards) the raid was in hysterics for a good 5 minutes. I love rogues.

My alt!

I did my PMC specialization quest on my 63 priest last night, and since he was so pretty in his new robe, I decided to take a picture of him:
